Replacing Congresswoman Ginny Brown-Waite in 2010, Representative Richard B. Nugent is best known as the Sheriff of Hernando County, Floria. Before representing the state’s 5th congressional district, Sheriff Nugent made a name for himself by balancing the budget for law enforcement and updating the sheriff’s department’s technology and computer system. Supported by the Tea Party, he faced a contentious election against Democrat James Piccillo, however, he was able to secure the seat and bring his brand of justice to the House of Representatives.

During his tenure in Congress, Nugent has taken numerous positions in line with the Tea Party movement. He introduced legislation to repeal the Health Care Act, reform the tax code and support military veterans. However, he broke with the caucus to protect Social Security for seniors. He’s using his stance on these issues to support his bid for reelection.
