Everyone, no matter the age, should be able to have their questions answered–but that would spread the power around, which scares people. Parenting is one of the only places where some people have ever felt that they had power or control, and many equate sharing power with losing it. If I give my child the information they need to save themselves from an unwanted pregnancy or STD, it’s WIN/WIN, isn’t it?

It was probably the pairing of the words “exposing” and “children” that flipped their crazy switch… next time speak slowly and say that you think “kids” should help “save” the “earth.”

Would you believe this happened? I brought up better ACCESS to recycling within the schools at a Town Hall meeting with the Superintendant as a means of exposing children to environmental responsibility. Another Mom interupted me and said, “Shouldn’t that be taught at home?” It truely came across that my subject was closely related to religion, creationism or sex ed! I almost flipped out!

I’m all for sex ed in school. They should do a Kama Sutra class too.

Sex ed should be a major priority, especially as children get older. Even older kids need it. Sure, most kids have already experimented by the time they leave high school, but emphasizing the importance of SAFE SEX will make the big difference. Remember when Janet Reno mentioned that schools should teach masturbation in the 1990s? Sorry, on retrospect it doesn’t look that bad. We might have foregone a generation of teen pregnancies.
